Wage war across the galaxy with three unique and powerful races. StarCraft II is a real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment for the PC and Mac.
I would like to use famous Brood War API for educational and scientific purposes (I am high school student writing neural nets), howewer it works only with 1.16.1 version of SC. Is there any option to get it, since SC Anthology is free now?
Until Blizzard answers officially, people in the #BWAPI @ freenode.net IRC channel might be able to help.
I think, that sharing old SC:Antology Installer (1.15.2 @ 1.2 Gb) with special CD-key and patch 1.16.1 will be better and simplest solution from Blizzard.
You could try either reinstalling StarCraft and then installing the 1.16.1 patch. Or rename your existing latest folder, if necessary, to trick the installer to run. You can manually download the patch from:
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/broodwar/patches/PC/BW-1161.exe
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/patches/PC/SC-1161.exe
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/broodwar/patches/Mac/Brood_War_v1161_OSX.zip
http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/starcraft/patches/Mac/StarCraft_v1161_OSX.zip
You won't be able to go online but you could play custom games.

I own, and have registered my game on Battle.net, but it is no longer an option for me to download, and considering that I'm writing this from an Intel GMA945 based computer, I understand the reasoning and desire to keep the original game alive for the next 20 years.
But I think keeping the 1.16 download available for us old timers who have bought the game and registered it with you as an option that should be available.
As it is, if these patch files don't work, I'll be dusting off the cd and hoping that it still works!

You can download the 1.16.1 client from ICCup. It is only ~200 MBs.

For safe keeping I would suggest for anyone with the interest of, err mm... keeping StarCraft 1.16.1 is to make a copy of the StarCraft directory/folder...
The game runs fine from anywhere in the file system... practically as an portable app... I have been keeping mine like that for more than 10 years.
Just drop wherever I want it and make a link to its executable!
